First Post of New Year

Eric Murphy on January 9th, 2007

Whew, what a whirlwind the holidays were! I am finally recovering and ready to get things back to normal. So, this is the first post of the new year and just to catch everyone up, here’s whats been going on in my world.

102_2228.jpgEJ turned nine months old on Christmas Day! He is “cruising” which is the phase between crawling and walking. I really thought he would walk before Christmas but he won’t even take a step. Maybe I should be happy, he’s not even walking and he’s into EVERYTHING. I can only imagine when he starts walking on full-time basis.

Over the holidays, due to a generous bonus and a raise, I got a Philips 42′ LCD HDTV …. enough said.

A whole lot is changing at my office. First off Chris Cox, our vice president and esteemed colleague is has retired and is no longer with the Idea Center. He will be sorely missed. I feel the pain of his absence everytime the phone rings. Also, we hired a new guy. His name is Travis, a recent graduate from Radford University. He will be a great fit for the company. We are thrilled to have him. We will probably have to hire a secretary very soon. Things are really picking up at work.

I am done freelancing. As soon as I finish my last few standing projects, I am going to quit. Freelancing, though profitable personally, is not a healthy use of my time since I have a full time job. Every other part of my life has suffered because of it, including my spiritual life. My desire is for a more balanced lifestyle and more importantly I feel that dedicating so much of my time to work has been self serving and not God-serving. I want to give more time to serving, nurturing relationships, and getting some momentum on some of the bigger life and kingdom goals that I have. So back to blogging.

It is seemingly a little known fact yet it has secretly and effortlessly become an epidemic. 1 in every 3 young black men are going to prison. After reading this statistic, I thought to myself “this just can’t be true”, yet I can’t ignore the facts. The streets of our urban rundown neighborhoods testify of [...]

What we can learn from the Amish Community

Eric Murphy on October 5th, 2006

Only a very few people in the world can even begin to understand what the Amish community in Nickel Mines, Pa is going through. But, as I turned on the TV the next morning the news headline took me by surprised and filled me with hope. It is a simple word that carries profound [...]
