A “GIANT” Difference

Eric Murphy on January 21st, 2008

Whats the GIANT difference that I think is the reason the NY Giants are in the Superbowl? Leadership.

Eli Manning was perceived by many media outlets and former players (eh hem… Tiki Barber) to not be a leader in the locker room or on the field. However, when you ask any of the Giants about Manning they all seem to give the impression that quite the opposite is true. Players like Antonio Pierce said that Eli has been the one giving speeches and firing the team up before a game; the very think that Tiki use to do.

It seems to me the real problem could have been that Manning was not allowed to nurture his leadership role to its full potential because of certain overpowering leadership personalities (ur-um…. Tiki Barber) that made it impossible for him to grow into the quarterback that we are witnessing now.

Often times leaders can for whatever reason, intentionally or unintentionally, squash the flames of the potential leaders around them rather than ignite them. This is true in almost any instance of life (family, work, sports, and yes.. church). Instead of “lording” over on another’s potential, we should all seek to encourage and empower one another to each to our greatest strengths.
