Seeing a little D.C.
While in DC for the Ecclesia National Gathering, I finally got to slow down and actually see DC (if only for a couple of hours), as opposed to the last time I was there when I had to pick up a friend who lived just a couple of blocks from the White House. DC is a beautiful city, culturally rich and full of carefully detailed architecture. When we first arrived, we drove through (accidentally 
) a very nice upscale neighborhood in which any of the houses I’ve seen in Richmond pale in comparison to.
During one of the longer conference breaks, a few of us decided to go a coffee shop. Daniel thought it would be a cool idea to visit the Potter House, a book store and coffee shop run by the Church of the Savior as a mission. On the way their, we got to see a lot of the city. And since the person responsible for the directions left said directions in the trunk of the car, leaving it up to memory to get where we were going, we got to see even more of the city. Fortunately, we had an unbelievable driver who commanded the streets with poise, precision, and even a little bit of madness… Thanks Leslie!
Finally, we got to the Potter House. The interior was made of quite an eclectic blend materials and decor. We found a table where the 5 of us could fit and had some good coffee and great conversation. Later on that night after the last conference session, we went to hang out at the Rock Bottom Brewery.
DC is definitely cool, and very fun to walk. While there last month, I walked everywhere after work each day, and I’m looking forward to doing it again in March. I stayed at a hotel on 13th and M, and one evening I left the hotel around 4:30pm and walked to the Mall (the monument one, not the shopping one), getting back at around 10:30pm. Did I mention that I walked alot? The picture of the Lincoln Memorial at night on my blog is one that I took!
